Global Tax and International Real Estate

Richard Hartnig and Marc Schwartz were honored to be invited to speak at the 2015 Real Estate Conference sponsored by the Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA). The Friday, June 19, 2015 Atlanta, Georgia conference is just one of many the GSCPA hosts throughout the year as it continues to show its importance within the profession.

As a boutique international tax advisory firm, Schwartz International was invited to discuss the US tax rules related to foreign investment in real property, as governed by the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act of 1980 (FIRPTA). Above and beyond the basic tax-technical rules, they discussed their experience and different strategies based on each investor’s objectives, their jurisdiction of residence and other factors, explaining that there is no “cookie cutter” or “one size fits all” approach for investors truly desiring to legitimately maximize their global after tax cash flow and stay in compliance with the ever-changing tax laws. This practical approach has resulted in many other CPA and law firms becoming clients of ours as we assist them advise their own clients.

Thanks to GSCPA for inviting us and for continuing to lead the way for our profession.
