Marc Schwartz, JD, CPA
Marc Schwartz is the founding partner at Schwartz International.
He spends most days working with his clients – U.S. and foreign individuals and businesses – providing practical strategic tax and business advice to help them successfully work across borders and achieve their short and long term goals. He also partners with accounting and law firms in need of international experience and is a sought-after speaker at tax conferences and meetings around the world.
Marc has lived and worked in the U.S. and abroad.
His diverse experience allows him to bring a practical global perspective to the individuals and businesses he serves. He began his career at a Big 6 accounting firm in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, where he built a strong foundation in federal, state, local, and international tax. He then transferred to one of the firm’s offices in Latin America where he continued to serve European, Asian, Latin American and U.S. clients.
After 10 years in a large, global accounting firm, Marc opened a boutique practice in response to individual and business clients who sought more flexibility in scope and pricing. He started by working with individuals and businesses in the middle market, as well as start-ups and their entrepreneurial owners. Those relationships have grown, building CGC International Tax’s and Schwartz International’s client base to include professional services firms, individuals across the economic spectrum and companies of all sizes.. A geographically diverse client base has allowed Marc to gain significant experience with:
- Tax Treaties
- Outbound/Inbound Planning
- Repatriation
- Foreign tax credits
- Real Estate Investments/FIRPTA
- Branch Taxes
- Audit Defense
In addition, Marc is a recognized author who contributes articles on international tax matters and legal issues to several trade publications.
Marc earned his BA from Colgate University, a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University and a law degree from Emory University.
He is fluent in Spanish and working on his Italian, French and Portuguese. He continues to practice his language skills to add value to the firm and its clients, so he is always game to practice different languages over drinks. As anyone who has spent any time with Marc can tell you, he brings so much energy to the firm that their coffee machine has to work overtime so others can keep up. Always on the move, Marc loves to be outdoors and, while retired from trail and mountain ultra-marathoning, he loves adventure travel including alpinism, mountaineering and rock climbing whether in the Dolomites and other parts of Italy, Mt. Blanc, Southern France, the US or Latin America’s Patagonia. On the rare occasions he is not in motion, he enjoys playing blues harmonica and reading – some favorites genres are Science Fiction / Fantasy, Historical Fiction and any other well-written book – and he’ll happily re-watch his favorite movie with you, The Princess Bride. Inconceivable!
