Introducing Mrs. Qulanda R. Smith!

Our International Tax Nerd of Operations, Qulanda (“Q”), is floating on cloud nine! She’s now officially Qulanda R. Smith after tying the knot in a romantic June ceremony. Since then, she’s been grinning from ear to ear (and it’s not just because tax season is over!).

What was initially supposed to be a courthouse civil ceremony between the couple, quickly turned into the wedding of their dreams – all put together in six months! A feat only a Director of Operations could handle.

Qulanda and her sweetheart, Darrius, said their “I dos” on June 8, 2024, at the gazebo of the Olde Towne Athletic Club in Marietta, GA surrounded by their nearest and dearest, including our Chief Nerd Marc and his wife, Tami. The day was a dream come true with perfect weather, awesome company, and a party in the Grand Ballroom that will go down in nerd history.

After basking in the post-wedding glow, Mr. and Mrs. Smith are ready to dive back into their routines. For Qulanda, that means tackling her to-do list with trademark efficiency. First things first, Qulanda was ready to introduce herself as Qulanda R. Smith to our clients who have known her for the past eleven years at Schwartz International as Qulanda R. Moore.

And hey, speaking of taxes – did you know that married couples who file jointly can score one of the beefiest standard deductions out there? That often means a sweeter tax refund, but first, there’s that handy IRS checklist to conquer.

Report a Name Change

If you decide to take a new last name, you must report this change to the Social Security Administration.

Update your Address

Did you move after marriage? If so, the IRS, your employer, and the USPS need to know!

Check your Withholding

Newly married couples must update their Form W-4 with their employer within 10 days of getting married as with filing jointly, you may move into a higher tax bracket.

Review Filing Status

If you’re officially married by December 31, the law states that for tax purposes, you’ve been married for the entire year.

Here’s to love, taxes, and checking off those boxes!

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Smith!
